I recently graduated with a BSc in Clinical Measurement Science as a Respiratory Physiologist. I joined the team in the NCRC working in Respiratory Research. My role is to perform lung functions tests on children with Cystic Fibrosis. We recently acquired a new lung function measurement device, the Exhalyzer D a Multiple Breath Washout (MBW) test. In collaboration with Prof. Paul Mc Nally, we are coordinating a research study on this device to validate the test in a population of healthy Irish children and in children with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The validation of this test may be of significant benefit to CF patients as their lung performance can be closely monitored allowing earlier detection of lung disease and in turn leading to improved long-term survival.
