Aideen Byrne

Consultant in Paediatric Allergy MRCPI FRCPCH PhD

Aideen graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in 1992. She attended the National Jewish Medical and Research Centre Denver, Colorado, as a Fulbright research scholar (2002-2004) and as a Clinical Allergy Fellow (2007-10). She obtained a PhD in Immunology from the National University of Ireland in 2010 for research into the role of innate immunity in inflammation regulation. She achieved FRCPCH in 2012.

In 2010, Dr. Byrne took up post as the first paediatric allergist at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Liverpool, UK. In January 2014, she established the Paediatric Allergy Department at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin (OLCHC).

Dr Byrne is Join Vice-chair of the Irish Food Allergy Network and Secretary of the Irish Association of Allergy and Immunology. She is also a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) and the British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI). She is chair of the Physicians Group in OLCHC and sits on the hospital Drug Safety Committee.

Research interests are in the management of food allergy.
