The National Children’s Research Centre would like to congratulate Dr. Jaythoon Hassan (UCD National Virus Reference Laboratory and UCD Centre for Experimental Pathogen Host Research) who recently won the Irish Lab Award’s Laboratory Scientist of the Year Award.
Jaythoon’s research is focused on viral host-pathogen interactions with a view towards understanding the factors affecting the development of immunity due to vaccine or natural viral exposure. She aims to translate her findings to the development of innovative diagnostic assays to help improve laboratory based diagnostic algorithms. The award recognises her contribution to innovation, leadership and research, at both a national and international level.
Jaythoon is funded through the NCRC’s Paediatric Research Project Grant scheme to study the mumps outbreaks in highly vaccinated populations. He research is also is also funded through Science Foundation Ireland and the Temple St Foundation.
