He is the Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health in University College Cork, Ireland since 2005. His primary area of clinical and research interest is in paediatric food allergy and anaphylaxis. He is co-Principal Investigator of the BASELINE, Ireland’s only birth cohort study and the INFANT Research Centre in UCC, and is a founding member of the Clemens von Pirquet Foundation, the Irish Food Allergy Network and is President of the Irish Association of Allergy and Immunology. Professor Hourihane was awarded Fellowships from the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health in 2005, Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in 2008 and American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology in 2011. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1987. He obtained his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Southampton in 1996, for his thesis entitled “Clinical and immunological features of peanut allergy”
