National Children’s Research Centre Individual Grant for MD/Clinical PhD/PhD/MSc
Aim
This is aimed at MD/clinical PhD/PhD/MSc candidates requiring salary and registration fees only, and where a budget for consumables is not required. This is a separate funding stream aimed at individuals, and has its own application form and review process.
MD/Clinical PhD
All medical advances are made on the basis of good clinical research; nowhere is this more important than in the area of childhood disease. The MD/clinical PhD programme at the National Children’s Research Centre is aimed at medically qualified candidates who wish to develop their scienfiic skills through rigorous research into paediatric conditions. A specific aim of this programme is to attract and develop an increased number of clinicians into the field of paediatric research, to provide a supportive infrastructure to allow them to be successful, and to fund these scientists in pursuit of a MD/PhD qualification. In the longterm, the production of research active clinicians in the field of paediatric should allow the gap between scientific advancement, and the development of new diagnostic/prognostic tests and treatments to be bridged. Such individuals will also add to the development of a sustainable research community in paediatrics.
Candidates may apply for support for a two (MD) or three (PhD) year period. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to conduct paediatric research in a stimulating research environment, attend a structured education programme and present their research to their peers at regular meetings, Financial support – salary and course fees – will be provided. Applications are externally reviewed and awarded by the Directorate.
MSc/PhD
This programme will support scientists, nurses or allied health professionals who wish to pursue a postgraduate qualification through research in the area of paediatrics, and who require a salary and fees only. To build a sustainable research community, and to ensure that an ethos of research is inculcated throughout paediatric hospitals, it is critical that the National Children’s Research Centre funds good quality research from the full range of individuals who can advance the diagnosis, care and treatment of children.
Eligibility:
MD/Clinical PhD
This grant award scheme is open to medically qualified personnel, with a track record of academic achievemnt and an interest in in-depth research in an area of interst to paediatrics, consistent with the objectives of the National Children’s Research Centre. Although completion of Higher Medical (Specialist Registrar, SpR) Training is not a prerequesite, acceptance onto, or partial completion of SpR training will be an advantage. The application must be made in conjunction with a Principal Investigator who is qualified to act as supervisor for the postgraduate qualification.
MSc/PhD
This grant award scheme is open to all appropriately qualified individuals who attain the requirements of the chosen university to register for a higher degree, and whose project meets the objectives of the National Children’s Research Centre. The application must be made in conjunction with a Principal Investigator who is qualified to act as supervisor for the postgraduate qualification.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should download and complete the application form for MD/Clinical PhD/MSc /PhD grant award. Applications for MD/Clinical PhD are accepted twice yearly – in January and June, ( See Important Dates ) 6 months prior to the proposed commencement of the project.
